Before You Begin
How to Prepare for Your Lessons
A little preparation goes a long way. Follow this checklist to make sure you hit the ground running from session one.
Device & Hardware
A desktop or laptop computer
Windows, Mac, or Linux — all work. Tablets are not suitable for the course. Hardware is not provided.
16 GB RAM recommended
Not a hard requirement, but strongly recommended for running AI tools and development environments smoothly.
Stable internet connection
Broadband is sufficient. Required for AI tools and virtual sessions.
A working microphone
Built-in laptop mic is fine. A headset improves call quality for virtual sessions.
Software & Accounts
Subscribe to a basic AI model plan
You will need an active subscription (e.g. ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, or similar). Students set this up independently before or during the first session.
Install required software yourself
Specific tools will be listed after enrolment. You are responsible for installing them on your own machine. Full guidance is provided in the first class.
A modern web browser
Google Chrome or Firefox (latest version). Most AI tools run in the browser.
A code editor
VS Code is recommended and free. We will configure AI extensions together in the first session.
Mindset & Expectations
No prior coding experience needed
The course is open to all levels. If you have no coding background, you are completely welcome — we start from the basics.
Expect to learn by doing
Every session is hands-on. You will write prompts, review AI output, and iterate — that is how the skill is built.
Set aside practice time between sessions
Even 20–30 minutes of independent practice between classes makes a significant difference to your progress.
Come with a project idea if you have one
Not required, but having a real goal in mind makes sessions more focused and rewarding.
Before Your First Session
Software setup & guidance in first class
Suggestions and step-by-step guidance for all required tools will be given in the first session. Come as you are.
Join your session link 5 minutes early
A virtual classroom link (Google Meet or Zoom) is sent 24 hours before. Test audio and video beforehand.
Have a notepad or document open
You will want to note down key prompts and techniques. A split-screen setup works well.
Write down 2–3 things you want to learn
Specific goals help Kelvin tailor your sessions from the very start. No question is too basic.
Not sure where to start? That's what the first class is for.
Setup guidance, tool recommendations, and a personalised learning plan are all covered in your first session. Just show up ready to learn.
